Special Needs Present Unique Oral Challenges

Did you know that children with physical or developmental disabilities, or those on the autism spectrum, are at a higher risk of developing common dental health concerns among kids, like cavities and bruxism? Our team, as well as our children’s dentist, are experienced in screening for and diagnosing these issues early on, allowing us to help prevent them from developing as well as keep them from progressing.
How Do We Help Patients with Special Needs Feel Comfortable?

We have your child’s best interests at heart, so you can rest assured that we’ll provide them with the high-quality, attentive dentistry that they deserve. In addition to having completed multiple pediatric dentistry mini-residencies, Dr. Nabi has privileges at AdventHealth Orlando, a local hospital equipped with the latest technology and trained experts, to provide safe hospital dentistry.
We also regularly see patients with physical and developmental disabilities and have special training on ways to create an accessible and comfortable environment based on their unique needs!
Hospital Dentistry for Special Needs Patients

Hospital dentistry is the process of providing general anesthesia to children who have an extreme phobia of the dental office or are unable to undergo treatment or dental cleanings without sedation. This allows our team to provide your child with thorough, quality care that doesn’t involve creating traumatic experiences for them, ultimately helping kids build a more positive vision of the dentist.

Dental Tips for Patients with Special Needs

For children, one of the most important aspects of maintaining a healthy smile is a good at-home oral hygiene routine. Our team, as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends brushing your child’s teeth with an appropriate-sized toothbrush twice a day for two minutes. Be sure to use the recommend amount of fluoride toothpaste, and floss between their teeth at least once a day as well. At each of their routine checkups and cleanings, our team will complete a thorough professional cleaning and nip any small issues in the bud so they don’t have a chance to cause your child any discomfort down the road!
